Friedrich Gaedcke (1828-1890)
Overview
Friedrich Gaedcke (June 5, 1828 - September 19, 1890) was a German chemist. He was first to isolate Cocaine in 1855 from the leaves of Erythroxylon coca, originally from Peru and Bolivia. It was used as anesthetic in 1860 and the first regulation of Cocaine in the US came in from Harrison Act of 1915.
