John Jones (1701)
Overview
John Jones (1644 or 1645 - August 22, 1709) was a Welsh cleric, inventor and physician. Dr. Jones extensively researched the medical effects of Opium and wrote The Mysteries of Opium Revealed in 1701. He also collaborated with Scientist Samuel Crumpe and together they discovered that opium could help a patient overcome cholera, vomiting, and diarrhea.
