Toxicological Perspective

Poisonous substances are affixed with Mr.Yuk symbols in order to warn children of the dangers.

Background

Mr. Yuk was commissioned in 1971 as the mascot for the poison center at The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Stickers were placed on poisonous substances as a warning. Mr. Yuk stickers were used in place of the traditional skull and crossbones image that has become associated with poisons, but no definitive evidence has shown either to be a more effective deterrent
